Here is the design willie has talked me into. I was thinking of sticking with the dual exhaust look but thats just a look. The best flow, power, and weight will be single exhaust. I have heard lots of single v6's sound pretty nice so i am fine with it. He also is creating an unequal length y pipe.

I created this to get some comments from the others who have made their y pipes and to maybe hear the difference in exhaust or the power differences.

why do u need an exhaust?? thats zero back pressure which means the car must have like a thousand horsepowa!!!   Run away Run away Run away

no, i have like 1" of pipe off most the cylinders, I am one of those who believe it messes up the valves having no exhaust.

My pipes tracking numbers say tomorrow. Willie on the other hand says this weekend is no good. Oh well nick hasnt really gotten to the wiring yet anyway.

As tim said running it with no exhaust could hurt the valves.

Hence why even race cars run headers that bring the exhaust a few feet from the motor.

wow lance actually used a term correctly.. Back pressure lol

the reason is velocity, exhaust uses its pulses which carry negative pressure behind them which pulls other pulses together. which is why you can go TOO big with an exhaust because you can slow down the velocity. Basically the goal is to get the air away from the motor as quick as possible. Your right though, back pressure is definitely the enemy to any engine.

You say back pressure is the enemy to every engine, but at the same time not enough back pressure can also hurt performance

wrong!!! not enough velocity can hurt performance. Has back pressure ever made sense to you that it hurt performance? U pick a diameter or volume of space for an exhaust pipe to match the power band of the motor. So if you want it to perform at its best like for my 3L you figure out the volume of air for a given rpm going out of the motor and you figure out at which speed the exhaust will go for a given diameter of pipe. The perfect speed is around 380mph. So more air = bigger piping. If you want me to explain why taking a cat off could hurt performance you have to take into affect the car is tuned for it.

ok... Well lack of back pressure wont hurt a properly tuned engine... However removing back pressure and not compensating for it in the tune of a stock vehicle could hurt..

Is that what you got from the article as well?

yea but this article mainly talks about tunes from the 90's. ECU's of today should easily compensate the a/f ratios.

WOW !!!! 380mph?!! What if you could harness that power and make it boost the performance of the engine some how?!

I got that this will hurt in the case of a stock tuned engine that is carborated. But removing back pressure actually does not hurt anything with a fuel injected stock tuned engine.

Maybe if we are lucky this will be seen by all teh internets and they can see the genius of this setup. Maybe we should draw a digram of it? We could patent it and make $$$$

How about a turbo

Also, depending on whether or not i feel the v6 needs more power i might join doug in adding a blower to the motor. That last kit i declined due to the price and poor craftsmanship. But there is a guy in the UK that is going to use a scion charger which can create 14 psi alone for the v6. Paul (the kit maker) is saying he can set it to a low 2-4psi boost for stock internal motors. The quote for 2-4psi alone though is over 50hp gain. So it might be worth trying out in the future. Its a kit that creates all the brackets and belts, all i would need to buy on my own is the actual charger and injectors and i'd be done.
