I like how they look so relaxed. Granted there was nothing to hit out there. But would you say he controlled snap oversteer??  I feel if he controlled snap oversteer he would have caught the oversteer and kept going about his business. He basically lost control and went off track.

He barely was off track. i would consider that controlling REAL snap oversteer because once that happens its like your car is on ice, and that was at 100mph! If you dont think that video shows a lot of skill then enjoy getting towed 5 miles off track or off of a tire wall.

I am saying he controlled it because of how long he used the track to slow the car down before it actually went off the track.
At autocross it would be easy to slow the car down to get enough traction to continue on. The fact that he never actually did a full 180 is amazing and he was still pointing where he wanted to go at the end.

I do wonder if tires have a lot to do with the control during sliding. I would think bad tires wouldnt have had enough grip to hold the car pointing in that direction and he would have just spun numerous times forward into the ditch.

I would think so, and considering he was on a track at 100+, I'd hope he was smart enough to invest in good tires. That is pretty impressive that he managed to keep as much control as he did. Snap oversteer is a bitch. I'm pretty sure I would have just spun in circles, and hoped and prayed I didn't start flipping or something...

Here is an idea of what was likely to happen

I dunno I kind of find this a little more impressive:

10:10 - Tsuchiya gets major oversteer, leaves the track but do to his ungodly amazing fast steering work saves the car. Sure its not snap oversteer, but its was such an extreme amount that even some experience drivers would have had a hard time recovering.

I guess my point is, I believe the guy saved the car, but i don't think he actually *caught* the oversteer. If he did, he wouldn't have ended all over the track. Take the second video with the guy on the street. None of these guys "saved" the car.

that original video is something a lot of us need to try and take example from, if possible.

terrible outcomes for the last 2 videos.. Sad

u have a lot to learn jerry,

how dare you compare driving a miata to a mr2.

mid-engine snap oversteer is not like a rwd getting oversteer at all.

the weight wants to carry over and assist in the oversteer making it that much more challenging to control

not to mention the front wheels trying to counter have a lot less weight over top of them giving them less grip.

So are you saying snap oversteer is unavoidable and the best you can hope for is not doing a 180, but sliding uncontrollably with hopes that you will scrub enough speed not to hit anything? I don't buy it. Yes I understand with an MR layout it demands more from the driver in terms of attention/reaction. But I for one, think any of the pro drivers wouldn't have too much of an issue controlling snap oversteer and not sliding all over the place.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/vnhiFucXoVk&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/vnhiFucXoVk&rel=1</a>

Here you go, tiff nidells explaination. "less entertaining" Now at 40mph at the limits he spun around. He also was on a skid pad and expected that too. Pro drivers know how to AVOID snap oversteer, but they are still human and make mistakes. Pro drivers arent perfect. So in this case, where he encounters this snap oversteer the car manages to stay sideways on track. Even mr drift king in your video ended up almost hitting a tire wall in a miata. People make mistakes, i am showing the video on this guy's skill on how to control after a mistake has been made.

Also if you didnt notice the guy you are impressed with used the e-brake to control his car. He is just a drifter and the other people around him are told to make him look good on the track and he gets upset otherwise. He is a fake and cheats most of the time to get ahead in his own setup races.

btw jerry, this was just the one video where he showed that he actually had to stop.

<a href="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=9996280&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;fullscreen=1&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=01AAEA" target="_blank">http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=9996280&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;fullscreen=1&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=01AAEA</a>

maybe you would be a lil more impressed with his other video.

^ Now that is what I am talking about! To me that is impressive. He caught the car, survived and kept going.
